Hi again and my name is Dr. Timothy Sharp. To be perfectly honest, I don’t really like to talk about myself so I don’t often promote my own credentials but I do want you to know that I’m qualified and experienced and that this program, “10 Simple Steps to Overcoming Depression”, has been created by someone you can trust and someone who knows what he’s talking about. Accordingly... I have three degrees in psychology (including a Ph.D. and a Clinical Masters Degree) and an impressive record as an academic, clinician and communicator. I have, in the past, built and run one of Australia’s largest clinical psychology practices, a highly regarded Executive Coaching practice, and I founded Australia’s (and one of the world’s) first organisations devoted solely to promoting the principles of positive psychology in individuals, families and organisations. I’ve been elected, by my peers, to the positions of State President (NSW) and then National President of the Australian Association for Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. Over the last few decades I’ve also taught at all the major universities in NSW and several others in other states. I’m currently an Adjunct Professor (in Positive Psychology) within the School of Management, Faculty of Business at UTS and also an Adjunct Professor (Positive Psychology) within the School of Health Sciences at RMIT University. I also provide training and supervision to clinical psychology interns at the University of Sydney and to others in Sydney Australia. In early 2008, my achievements were recognised by the Australian Davos Connection when I received a Future Leadership Award (presented to me by the Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd). This award was established to provide the opportunity "for outstanding leaders of our generation to be recognised for their achievements and to contribute to a vision for Australia's future". I’ve worked with some of Australia’s leading executives and top companies including professional service firms such as Mallesons Stephen Jacques and Allens Arthur Robinson, as well as businesses within the finance sector such as Westpac & BT Financial Services, AMP, JP Morgan and Swiss Re. and many, many more. But just as importantly, I’ve treated more than a thousand individuals, from all walks of life, and helped many of these overcome depression, stress, anxiety and other psychological, emotional and behavioural problems. I’m also best-selling author, a sought after public speaker, and I make frequent appearances in the local and international media including, for a period in the past, being read and heard by millions of people every week in a syndicated newspaper column and radio spot. In short, I’ve devote pretty much all of my adult life to understanding problems like depression and just as importantly, to doing what I can do alleviate suffering and distress in as many people as possible.
